Desert Groove is a classic rock band based in Al Ain, but can be seen in venues over the UAE. Playing a mixture of classic rock, funk and pop, its current four members bring together a wealth of diverse musical experience from various corners of the globe.
If an axe head is replaced, then its handle, is it the same axe? So it is with Desert Groove. DG has been around in one form or another since 2009.
The current line-up includes the fabulously talented Lisa Cotturo on vocals. Lisa came to the UAE after signing in a variety of Las Vegas show bands, and her experience and professionalism gave the band a huge boost.
Stage right is dominated by Scott Hawkins on lead guitar. Hailing from Tennessee, Scott grew up with guitar in his blood. After playing semi-professionally in the States in a number of touring bands, Scott wouldn’t let the move to the distinctly quieter town of Al Ain slow him down. Providing blistering solos and huge power-house chords, Scott is the driving force in the band.
The rhythm section is handled by Hungarian drummer Zsolt! and Kiwi, David Wallace. David is the only member of the original 2009 version of Desert Groove. Zsolt joined the band in 2013 and provides the solid backbeat that keeps people on the dancefloor. Best left to his own words, “I really love the rock music’, Zsolt says, ‘when I get behind the kit, there’s nothing better for me than bashing out a huge classic rock song.”
Like the axe, Desert Groove may not be exactly the same as it was in 2009, but they hope to be around for a good deal longer.
